Dianne Arbus: Redefining Beauty in the 1960's
The American photographer Dianne Arbus had started out as a fashion photographer, only interested in the subjects that were considered "beautiful" by society in the 1960's America. She began to form her own style of photography by showing the less traditional socially acceptable types in their raw environment; or the "ugly" side of people. She was one of the first "Street Photographers" unafraid of approaching and documenting real, everyday people and subjects without any filter. She did not like to be known as the "freak photographer" because she saw all people as equal in everyday real life, whereas most of society would deem her subjects as the "fringe" or on the outer edge of "normal" life.
