WELCOME to Art 7/8 with Ms.Losness
PLANNING for Art B
for next school year 2021-22

If you have found that you have excelled in learning basic art skills in elementary school and would like to commit more of your time to working and creating your own unique artworks, then you should consider applying for the Art B class.

Art B exists for students who want to push themselves beyond basic skills they have mastered in elementary school. To claim a space in this class, students must have received high marks in previous art classes and/or have had their work chosen to be displayed in a district wide art show or have had other honors that recognized a higher skill level in Visual Art.  The application (below) must be completed and submitted by the deadline of April 1, 2021.

Art B is only offered for one period during each semester and may not be available for some students simply because of scheduling issues. Schedules may change at any time and there is no way to pre-determine placement. When advanced level art students may have scheduling issues because the Art B class can only be offered during certain elective time slots, they will be placed in regular Art 7/8.  Depending on team placement and other elective classes, some regular Art 7/8 classes will still have advanced students and will still be a high quality experience. Art B allows more one-on-one time and study beyond regular class limitations. Interested students should want to take advantage of after school time and be willingly available for special in-depth projects.

Regular Art 7/8 is still a quality class to learn about art tools, techniques, methods and elements of art and is a fine choice in case a students schedule won't fit Art B. It’s not a status class for “smart” kids, it offers extra time and attention to those who have already proven basic skills and are self-motivated to push themselves even further. There is no shame in being in regular Art 7/8 and the opportunity to excel in Art exists no matter the class title.

Application for Art B due 4/1/21
Please submit a copy of your answers to Ms.Losness by the application deadline of April 1, 2021.

Art B Application
Student Name:________________________________________________________

1. Describe a work of Art you have made previously and include details of the creative process you went through. Specifically name the art tools, techniques, materials and Art Elements you used in your creation.  How did your artwork stand out from the crowd and what made it unique to you?  What did you learn during the process?

2.  When mixing paint colors, which color would you add to a blue tint if you wanted to make it appear a shade darker?

3.  What is a "Brayer" tool used for in the Printmaking process?

4.  What is the maximum thickness of a slab of clay if it were to be fired in the kiln?

5.  What is the difference between a 4H and a 6B drawing pencil?

6.  What is the difference between a 2D work of Art and a 3D work of Art?

7.  About how many layers of glaze should be brushed onto Bisqueware before glaze firing in the kiln?

8.  In the space below, please sketch an approximately 3 inch 2D circle shape. Using the crosshatching shading technique, create shadow and light to give depth so the flat circle will appear to become a 3D form of a sphere.
